Paymaster: A Required Lego Block for Mass Adoption
Fund your contract to enable your community to interact on-chain without crypto.
TLDR;
Fund your contract to enable your community to interact on-chain without crypto.
Why Paymaster Matters
Bitte has supported dozens of real-world activations since 2018. Here are just a few:
The first-ever NFT Ticket in Berlin in 2019
Minting a million NFTs with Deadmau5
Airdropping beer NFTs at festivals outside Berlin.
Yet, in all these events, we ran into the same two massive friction points
Onboarding due to clunky wallets
Limited interaction due to users not owning the native token to make necessary transactions like claim and redeeming.
You cannot expect new users to own your native chain’s token. If we ever want to bridge the gap of getting ordinary users to interact with your smart contracts outside of speculation, a paymaster service is required.
What is a Paymaster?
Simply put, a paymaster lets you cover the gas costs for users interacting with your on-chain activations, so they don't need any crypto to participate. This drastically lowers the barrier to entry, making it easier for new users to explore blockchain technology. With paymasters, brand activations with dapps become as simple as any web2 activation—no extra steps required.
Who is it for?
Web3 is evolving beyond just token holders buying on exchanges and staking for speculative gains. It’s about DAOs, ticketing applications, inventory supply chain mechanics, and countless other real-world use cases waiting to be deployed.
However, the biggest challenge remains to onboard the right people. Dapps can only function long-term if those using them are value additive rather than value extractive. That means -additive rather than value-extractive. to—getting your employees, concertgoers, or DAO members tokens to participate, vote, checkto —getting your employees, concertgoers, or DAO members tokens to participate, vote, check , or DAO members to acquire and use native tokens just to participate, vote, check in, or interact with your smart contracts.
With Bitte Paymaster, we've eliminated this onboarding barrier.
Setting One Up
Go to Paymaster (create an account if needed; Bitte is using Paymaster to make this account creation free for you)
Choose the functions you want to pay for (by default all functions are selected to start)
Fund the amount of transactions you want to pay for and sign the transaction
And your done!
Integrate Into Your App
Run the paymaster using the Bitte Wallet or run it behind the scenes with code.
You can get your URI from the paymaster UI
pnpm i @near-relay/client
import { relayTransaction } from "@near-relay/client";
const receipt = await relayTransaction(action: Action | Action[], receiverId: string, relayerUrl: string, network: string, account: Account)
ICC White Labled Wallet + Paymaster
The International Cricket Council (ICC) used the Bitte Paymaster to onboard 30k users, who had never interacted with blockchain. These new users had no problem creating an account using passkey and were issued rewards as they completed various tasks to keep up with the 2024 World Cup.
For their specific activation, ICC chose to white label the wallet so fans never knew they were leaving the iOS, Android, or web app.
You can learn more about how to white label or integrate the Bitte Wallet here.
Contact our team through our Telegram channel if you are looking for a custom white-label solution.
Cross Chain Signatures Coming
We are now able to sign messages across multiple chains with a NEAR account using Chain Abstraction. You can try it here on testnet. Your Sepolia ETH account is in the settings.
Once we are able to use NEAR and USDC to run gas transactions across multiple chains, the Paymaster will be key to paying for transactions on any chain with a single token. Mainnet is expected early October for most major EVMs.
AI Tools for Real-World Adoption
All of Bitte’s products are coming together this fall, and the backbone will be Paymaster. Think of an activation where you use AI agents to peg your inventory to digital assets and then enable your customers to search and execute the purchase of your products using human-readable conversations
“Buy two red bags from the fall fashion show by X brand and send one to my sister.”
The brand should pay for the transactions, and the business model kicks in upon purchase. Blockchain comes in secondary markets, where you can share assets with influencers to engage their community or empower customers to sell on secondary markets with royalties for the brands accruing for every sale. It's much better than buybacks on returns.
